Job Overview:

The ideal candidate is a resourceful and inquisitive engineer with a passion for front-end design as well as back-end Web application development.  The intern in this role will be tasked with developing new features and enhancing the design of critical Big Switch web applications.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the engineering teams to implement desired features within the existing Ruby-on-Rails web application & the AWS-based backend

Minimum Qualifications / Experience:

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Computer Science program or equivalent
  • Experience with high-level programming languages such as Python, and has the desire and drive to quickly learn and gain working knowledge of other similar languages such as Ruby
  • Experience working with Javascript, CSS, HTML, and at least one web application framework (Django, RoR, …)
  • Experience working with Web application frameworks, Javascript toolkits/frameworks, AJAX methodologies, and REST APIs
  • Experience configuring and managing Linux servers, comfortable on the Linux CLI
  • Must be able to join Big Switch as an Intern for at least 3 months

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher–or equivalent commercial experience
  • Proficiency with Ruby-on-rails & Ruby
  • Proficiency with JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Experience with networking, TCP/IP
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services - EC2, CloudFormation, VPC
  • Git & CI/CD processes
